WHAT IS TALENT? Is one born with it, or is it taught? Is it part inspiration, or perspiration, or a set of unique abilities?
DOES REGIONALISM STILL EXIST? Are there particular sensibilities shared by artists of a particular city or state, and if so, how and why does this operate?

Talent Show is a large-scale art exhibition that brings together the varied artistic achievements of the trained and untrained, selected from Atlanta proper, and environs within 100 miles of the city. Modeled on the traditional American talent show which unites members of a community to recognize and reward bold and audacious skills, this exhibit attempts to find and promote the widest possible examples of creative practice. The show will examine issues of creativity and the relevance of place in production of art and visual culture.

In recent years, reality-based TV offerings including Project Runway, America’s Got Talent, Top Chef, and American Idol have created new opportunities for talent to be recognized and rewarded. The combination of acumen, dedication, and eccentricity makes for fascinating television, and each week dedicated viewers watch as contestants battle it out in high-pressured contexts with limited time and materials. Our exhibition recognizes the growing interest in diverse creativity under pressure.

We are interested in traditional art mediums including painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, video, Web-based art; along with unlikely types of making---hairdressing, fingernail decorating, weaving, fashion, vernacular architecture, topiary, food art, robotics, and so on.

Stuart Horodner, Director of Exhibitions& Education will curate this exhibition, with suggestions from hand-picked Talent scouts from the region. A catalog will document this truly democratic show.
Prizes will be awarded by special jurors selected from the fields of art, sports, politics, entertainment, food, design, and fashion.
