Volunteer Program

The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center welcomes the assistance of volunteers. If you are looking for ways to become more involved in your community, we would love to work with you.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a background or interest in contemporary art, studio art, or art education. Candidates must be willing to commit themselves and their services for a specified period of time.

Responsibilities

ACAC has a variety of volunteer opportunities listed below but we also welcome offers of special skills on specific tasks.

  • Visitor Services Volunteer: Help us staff our front desk. Volunteers interact with visitors, handle admissions, answer phones, and oversee the shop.
  • Photography & Videographer Volunteers: We need avid photographers and videographers to capture our exhibition openings, events, and educational programs. This is a great opportunity to help us while building your professional portfolio. Volunteers must provide their own camera equipment. Digital format is preferred. Photographers receive credit when their images are used.
  • Special Events Volunteer: The Contemporary hosts a number of events and programs throughout the year. Volunteers assist with various aspects of event preparation including: event planning, set-up and clean-up, and guest registration among other duties.
  • Gallery Prep Volunteer: Help with exhibition installation and de-installation. We change out exhibitions four times a year and need people who are handy. Tasks include painting, graphics installation and removal, construction, and clean-up. Previous experience is a must.
  • Gardening Volunteer: Help us keep our studio courtyard healthy and green. Volunteers must provide their own gardening equipment. Reimbursement for expenses must be pre-approved.

Benefits

Volunteers receive many of the same benefits of membership including free admission to exhibitions and programs and a 10% discount in our SHOP. Upon completion of 25 hours, volunteers receive a complimentary individual membership with associated benefits.

To Apply

Please email your resume or information about your background, and a statement about your interest in volunteering to mbeal@thecontemporary.org. If an applicable volunteer position is available, you will be contacted about an interview. All volunteers are expected to attend an orientation session.
