2011 winter programs
Sat, Feb 19, 11 am – 12 pm
This is a great opportunity to listen to and meet curators from three dynamic art cities—Portland (OR), Houston, and Kansas City.
Diane Barber, Co-Executive Director/Visual Arts Curator, DiverseWorks Art Space; Kristan Kennedy, Visual Art Curator, PICA; and Raechell Smith, Director/Curator, H&R Block Artspace, discuss the art communities of Houston, TX; Portland, OR; and Kansas City, MO. They will dialogue with ACAC’s Artist Director, Stuart Horodner—talking about the ways in which cities develop their creative class of artists, gallerists, collectors, and patrons. This panel follows on the heels of several ATL conversations about various artists and organizations getting to know each other and collaborating to make our city a more vital place.
Barber and Smith were part of the jury that selected the recipients of the Artadia Grants in San Francisco in 2009, including artists included in the current ACAC exhibition Embodying (James Gobel, Allison Smith, and Richard T Walker).
The Creative Lives & Careers series provides working artists, educators, and enthusiasts with practical guidance about their work and careers. Knowledgeable arts professionals share their “tried and true” experiences in order to educate and inspire participants. This program is an evolution of our Artist Survival Skills series, and is an effort to move beyond merely surviving in the art world into the realm of succeeding.
