What
began as a mere concept in 1973 has blossomed into
an organizational model for contemporary art centers
throughout the nation. The Contemporary, formerly
Nexus Contemporary Art Center is a multidisciplinary
arts center that contributes to the arts scene of
Atlanta by making the work of local, regional, national,
and international artists available to the Greater
Atlanta community. Through four major programming
areas, critically acclaimed exhibitions, award-winning
Nexus Press publications, a prestigious Artist Studio
Program and a broad spectrum of educational outreach
programs that serve many diverse audiences, The
Contemporary strives to provide programs and services
that are unique in Atlanta and the Southeast.

The
Atlanta Contemporary Art Center’s mission
and purpose is to promote experimentation and
excellence in the visual, performing and book
arts. We provide access to resources and support
for emerging and established artists on a local,
regional, national and international levels and
create opportunities for them to share their work
with the public. In all aspects of its programming,
the Contemporary is committed to gender equality
and cultural diversity. By developing, educating
and cultivating energetic audiences of knowledgeable
supporters, we serve as a major multidisciplinary
arts center in the Southeast.
